Don't blow an entire travel budget on eating out in Hollywood. These restaurants will help keep the tummy full and the wallet, too.
There are a lot of fine dining restaurants where a check for two can easily be in the triple digits. Not at these places, though. Eat well without blowing large amounts of cash at these yummy eateries in Hollywood. Look For Discount NightsSome of Hollywood’s fine dining establishments and bars offer discounts during the early part of the week to lure extra business on what would otherwise be a slow night. That translates into great dining deals for the budget traveler. Try Bella Cucina Italiana (1708 N. Las Palmas Ave; 323.468.8815) on Tuesdays for 50% off the total bill. Dine on Sunday nights at L’Scorpion (6679 Hollywood Blvd) and get a free pitcher of margaritas with dinner, as well as 50% off drinks at the bar. Tuesdays at La Cantina (6541 Hollywood Blvd; 323-871-1363) are 2-for-$2 taco night. Happy Hours Equal Cheap EatsHappy hours aren’t just for cheap drinks. Many also offer discounted appetizers and a savvy traveler can take advantage of these early evening discounts to piece together a low-priced meal. Lots of vegetarian options, too. Lucky Strike Lanes (at Hollywood and Highland Center) has a Monday through Friday happy hour offering half-price appetizers, and on Wednesday nights they often bring out a $1 burger special. This has no toppings or sides, but for a buck, one can’t complain. Grab a Quick SliceThere are several pizza joints in Hollywood that offer pizza by the slice starting around $4. Try Pizza Al Forno (6541 Hollywood Blvd; 323-962-8903) for a quick and cheap slice of New York-style pizza. Dine Al FrescoVisit the Sunday Farmer’s Market at Hollywood and Vine, grab some fresh bread, cheese and maybe a prepared food dish or two and have a great low-priced meal. Ralph’s Supermarket (7257 W Sunset Blvd; 323-512-8382), also known as the Rock-n-Roll Ralph’s to locals, is a great place to grab some quick cheap bites from the deli area. Eat a Hearty BreakfastThe Griddle Café (7916 W. Sunset Blvd; 323-874-0377) is packed on weekends, but that’s because not only is the food good, but the portions are huge. An order of three flavored pancakes may be $9, but it is literally big enough to satisfy three to four hearty eaters. Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles (1518 N. Gower St; 323-466-7453) is a Hollywood institution and serves up hearty portions for around $10 or less per dish. Go Fast FoodThere are plenty of fast food options to choose from at the Hollywood and Highland Center, including Johnny Rockets and California Pizza Kitchen with prices averaging $10 or less per person for a complete meal. Just across the street is a McDonald’s. But if fast food is the choice, then a visit to In-n-Out Burger (7009 Sunset Blvd) is an absolute must. Try the double-double animal style and make it a combo to get fries and a drink included for less than $5. Just hold the raw onions if it’s date night. And while it sits at the very edge of Hollywood, no culinary trip is complete without a visit to the legendary Pink’s Hot Dogs (709 N La Brea; 323-931-4223), where there is always a long line and over 30 ways to have a hot dog for $6 or less (there’s even one for vegans!). * * * * * * * * * * Hollywood has a wide variety of restaurants but with the above suggestions, travelers should have no problems having a hearty tasty meal at budget-friendly prices.
